Polygraph / Lie Detection Services

A polygraph, or a lie detector, is an instrument that measures certain physiological events in the human body.  Specifically, the polygraph monitors breathing, sweat gland activity in the finger tips, changes in blood volume, and heart rate.  These changes are recorded on a graph and analyzed by a polygraph examiner.  In conjunction with this process, a series of questions are asked of the person being tested regarding a topic which was discussed at length in a pre-test interview, and to which the test subject had agreed.

There are several applications of the polygraph.  One application of the polygraph is to resolve employment disputes.  In such cases, the use of the polygraph must be in compliance with the Employment Protection Act.  This act regulates when a test may be administered and under what conditions.  Venture Risk Investigations will be happy to provide a copy of the act upon a client’s request. 

Pre-employment testing is another area in which polygraph testing may be utilized, pursuant to certain conditions outlined in the Act.  Under these conditions, test screening of applicants can greatly enhance the hiring process and eliminate numerous problems and liability risk for the employer.  Pre-employment testing also enhances the employer’s ability to select the most qualified, credible, and trustworthy applications in the hiring pool, and channels the best candidates into the training process.

Another useful application of polygraph testing is to investigate a specific occurrence or event.  This test is designed to zero in on one issue that must be resolved, whether that issue has arisen at the work place, between an attorney and client, between family members, or any other situation in which the potential test subject agrees to submit to the polygraph test to resolve the issue at hand.
